Composer, violist, educator. "Approachable" instrumental music draws from classical, ethnic and jazz traditions, primarily string-oriented.
Biography:

Katrina Wreede, violist, composer, educator, has been a professional symphony musician, a jazz violist, a member of Turtle Island String Quartet, a concert soloist, a belly dancer, a police fingerprinter, a player of Tango Nuevo, Persian and Central European music and a composer for soloists, chamber ensembles, orchestras and dance, sometimes with social and political overtones. Her works are published by MMB Music and Latham Music and performed internationally. She has been Visiting Artist with many schools, including Boston Conservatory and for the Berkeley Symphony. She was Composer in the Schools for ACF from 1998-2004.

Recent Works: 

"Gift of the Magi" for sop, ten, vc, pno, based on O. Henry "Suite for Airmail Dances" for solo viola and AXIS Dance Troupe, choreography by Remi Charlip"Living Wind Chimes" interactive pieces (for 10-player "living wind chime" ensemble and public open spaces"24 Diverse Duets for Beginners Age 8-88" for 2 violins

Music is the connective tissue between people-teachers and students, performer and audience, musician to musician. Everything I create should honor and build community and human connections.
