The Arcis Saxophon Quartett is excited to announce its first ever Call for Scores, inviting composers of any age from around the world to contribute a vibrant, experimental, and entertaining piece to our program Quirky Nightclub Chronicles.
Submission Details
Requirements
- A composition of 5–6 minutes for SATBar saxophone quartet with backing track (electronics).
- Additionally (or alternatively), we can also perform on four Roland Aerophones (MIDI wind controllers), as we do in our opening piece “G-Spot Tornado” by Frank Zappa.
- Backing tracks can include sample-based or electronically produced elements.
- The composition should match the character of our program: upbeat, fun, and experimental.
- Submission Materials:
1. Transposed score in PDF format.
2. Backing track in WAV format (if possible, also a MIDI or mockup demo).
3. A brief CV and full contact details. - Submission Process:
- Send all materials via email to callforscores@arcis.de; you may use file hosting services, if file size is more than 8MB
- Deadline for submissions: April 22, 2025.
What’s in it for you?
- The winning piece will be performed at least 30 times worldwide as part of our Quirky Nightclub Chronicles tour. (The winning composer is not required to travel to attend performances.)
- It is highly likely to be professionally recorded and released on our own label. (If so, mechanical rights will remain with the composer, and split of proceeds will be negotiated with the composer.)
- The selected composer will receive an honorarium of €300.
Evaluation and Selection
- All submissions will be reviewed by the members of the Arcis Saxophon Quartett: Claus Hierluksch, Ricarda Fuss, Anna-Marie Schäfer, and Jure Knez.
- The winner will be announced within six weeks after the deadline.
