Boston New Music Initiative Call for Scores: Prismatic Congruency

Opens: October 12, 2021
Deadline: December 15, 2021

The Boston New Music Initiative is announcing a call for solos to be programmed as part of BNMI’s thirteenth season digital presentation series “Prismatic Congruency.” Incorporated in 2010, BNMI aims to advance the careers of its members in the field of new music by serving as a resource for networking, professional development, commissioning, collaboration, and programming. The call is open for all solo acoustic, electro-acoustic, and multimedia works. The competition is open to all composers with no restrictions.

The new series “Prismatic Congruency” will present a series of solo works in several 20-30 minute video collections released throughout the season. When submitting to the call, your work will become part of a database of solo works that peformers can look through to find repertoire. BNMI will have core ensemble members choose several works to be part of the series, and unaffiliated performers can find your solos, and submit videos for inclusion as well. If you would like to submit an existing video performance, please go here.

  1. Instrumentation. Scores for any instrument may be submitted, however works for flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello and piano will be considered for performance by BNMI performers.
  2. Duration. Works can be of any duration, although preference will be given to works which are 8 minutes or less.
  3. Multimedia. For all multimedia submissions, composers must either indicate that they have the rights to the specific multimedia element to be used (e.g. the film, tape, electronics, choreography, artwork, etc.). If their work is selected, the composer must grant BNMI permission to utilize it during performance, or else grant BNMI permission, at its discretion, to create a multimedia element. In the second case, BNMI reserves the right to incorporate or not to incorporate multimedia elements at its sole discretion.
  4. Electronics. Scores of works involving fixed media are accepted, please include a link to download the appropriate files.
  5. Number of Entries. There is no limit on the number of works a composer may submit; however, each work should be submitted as a separate entry.
  6. Membership. Composers wishing to submit scores must become Shout level members of BNMI. Shout It Out membership is $20 a year. Information on membership benefits can be found here. Please note that new memberships may take up to 24 hours to be approved (although usually much less).
