Call for Scores!

CNM and Beo String Quartet are excited to announce their 5th contest/call for scores by emerging and mid-career composers, aged 35 years and older, who also live in the U.S. “We’re intrigued by placing no durational limit on entries. This might really open up the field.” – Beo.

One winner will receive the 1st Prize. Top 10 pieces will receive honorable mention recognition.

1st Prize:

  • Beo String Quartet will perform the selected work at the 10th international 2021 Charlotte New Music Festival,
  • Travel stipend and dorm accommodations for 4 nights at the 2021 CNMF in Charlotte, NC,
  • Be a featured guest composer at CNMF,
  • Performance of the work in Beo String Quartet’s regular concert season,
  • Receive a studio recording,
  • American Composers Alliance will offer publishing services for the selected winning piece (distribution/management).*

Eligibility:

  • Currently reside in the continental United States.
  • Must have a birthdate in 1985 or earlier.
  • Be willing to give a presentation on their music and attend the performance in late June 2021 at the annual Charlotte New Music Festival.
  • The work may have been previously performed.
  • CNMF current/former staff and guest composers are ineligible for this opportunity.
  • CNMF alumni are eligible.

Submissions: Submissions will only be accepted from September 16 to October 16, 2020. There is a $7 submission fee. Winner will be announced on November 16., 2020. To submit your quartet: https://charlottenewmusic.org/contest

Jury Members: Jury members are made up of the Beo String Quartet + past guest composers and staff of the Charlotte New Music Festival from the past 10 years.

*ACA agrees to: offer publishing services for the selected winning string quartet for the 2021 Charlotte New Music Festival competition. The contract offer will be for distribution and management of the work for a renewable two year period, without any transfer of copyright – an exclusive license offer from ACA to print and sell the materials for 2 years from the date of the festival premiere.
