Eligibility: The Collinsworth School of Music at California Baptist University invites any composers (no age limit) that are currently enrolled in a university music program or have already completed a college degree in music to apply. International applicants welcome. Christian church affiliation is not required for this application. California Baptist University welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and beliefs. Works (PDF and audio file) should be sent to musiccomposition@calbaptist.edu.

Guidelines: Compositions in any style and instrumentation (chamber, choral, orchestral, band) may be submitted. While the competition is open to all styles, works that fit into the tradition of art music composition are desired. Musical parts of the composition need to be clearly notated and the music must be completely original to the composer. Electro-acoustic hybrid works are welcome and the electronic parts do not need to be notated. While live performance recordings are desired, MIDI and virtual instrument realizations are allowed.

Judging: The composition faculty at California Baptist University–Josh Rodriguez (PhD, UCLA), and Glenn Pickett (DMA, Claremont Graduate University)–will serve as the judging panel. Judges are not able to provide feedback on submissions and reserve the right to award no prize.

Entrance fee: None.

Submission: Submit a PDF score and mp3 recording (live or MIDI) of your best piece to musiccompetition@calbaptist.edu. In the email subject line please write, “Graduate Fellowship in Composition.” Additionally, please include your biographical information–educational background, primary instrument, music teachers–and a paragraph detailing your career goals. Applications must be received electronically by January 15th, 2022.
