PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Our flagship summer program provides early-career composers the opportunity to compose & premiere a new work, to develop their craft, and to take critical steps in their creative and career development–all under the guidance and mentorship of our world-class festival faculty.

What sets INMF apart is our commitment to preparing composers for both the creative and practical realities of a career in the arts. In addition to the premiere and documentation of their new work, composers participate in private lessons with composition faculty, workshops with performance faculty, as well as Masterclasses, Conducting Workshops, and our innovative Evening Lecture Series focusing on career development topics.

The Summer Festival is an intensive hybrid program which includes both online and then in-person events.

Applicants may be of any age or nationality. Visa sponsorship for international participants is not available.

Are there scholarships available to help with enrollment costs?

INMF is committed to helping break down socio-economic barriers to music education and training, so we work with participants by providing letters of support for institutional and private grants, and offer payment plans for our programs. Our organization also fundraises for a scholarship fund each year, in order to help those outstanding applicants who might not be able to participate in INMF without financial support. INMF Scholarships are limited and distributed at the discretion of the festival directors and faculty. Applicants may apply for our scholarships after being officially accepted into an INMF program.

Do I need to attend the In-Person events in Los Angeles?

For the 2024 Festival, all participants are invited to Los Angeles, California during the week of July 30 through August 3rd to participate in our in-Person events, including rehearsals, talks, conducting workshop, concert(s) and more. While not required, we strongly encourage all participating composers to come to the full in-person portion of the festival. Remote options will be available for those unable to travel. Tuition is the same regardless of in-person participation.

In-Person events for the 2024 Festival will be held at the Colburn School Conservatory of Music. Accepted composers will be provided information on housing options and costs.

What is required for the application?

The application asks for basic information (name, contact info, which program they are interested in, etc), and asks applicants to provide links to two scores and respective recordings that they feel best represent their work. There are no references or Resume/CVs collected in the application.
