VI Symposium “Mikrotöne: Small is beautiful”

Salzburg, July 3 to 6, 2025

A series of Papers, Workshops and Concerts focusing on microtonal music to be presented in Salzburg in collaboration with the University Mozarteum.
The International Ekmelic Music Society in Salzburg, Austria is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for the VI Symposium “Mikrotöne: Small is beautiful” in collaboration with the University Mozarteum in Salzburg between July 3 and 6, 2025.
We invite submission of abstracts of up to 300 words. Papers may address the music of any period, concerning ekmelic research issues such as tuning systems, historical aspects or new microtonal compositions. Demonstrations and lecture recitals are very welcome. Papers to be presented should be 45 minutes in length (35 min. presentation and 10 min. discussion).
Papers should be presented in person. Online papers might also be included (to be decided by the commission in April 2025).

The language of the symposium is English.

Applicants may be of any age or nationality. Letters of invitation are available when needed for visa application purposes.

Call for Papers deadline: March 31st, 2025

There are no congress fees. Participants are responsible for their own housing and food. There might be travel bursaries for the participants, depending on the kind support by different institutions. Active participants are entitled to attend any presentations at the symposium. Listeners can acquire a membership for the International Ekmelic Music Society, which allows entrance to all the presentations, including the concerts.
