Line upon line 2022 Winter Composer Festival 

Austin, TX – January 8-15, 2022

The 2022 festival is an opportunity for up to six composers and one early-career composer/performer ensemble to create, workshop, document and premiere new works in Austin, TX.

The festival is designed to:

  • Highlight the fundamental importance of making new things and doing so together

  • Move traditionally academic activities outside of academia

  • Foster the interchange of ideas between composers

  • Expand concepts of what percussion is and can be

  • Showcase this city we are proud to call home

For Composers

April 18, 2021 at 11:59 PM CST: Application deadline

May 3, 2021: Decision notification

May 10, 2021 at 11:59 PM CST: $250 non-refundable acceptance deposit due

May 3 – November 1, 2021: Virtual collaborative period

November 1, 2021 at 11:59 PM CST: Score deadline*

January 8 – 15, 2022: Winter Composer Festival

*If performance-ready score is not submitted on time, festival participation will be revoked, without exception.

Requirements

For Composers

  • Age 21 or older by January 8th, 2022

  • Able to attend the entire eight-day festival

  • Have not attended this festival in the past (previous applicants welcome)

For Ensembles

  • All members are 21 or older by January 8th, 2022

  • Able to attend the first five days of the eight-day festival

  • The ensemble primarily performs the work of its members

  • The ensemble consists of 2-6 members, any instrumentation

  • Previous festival attendees are welcome to apply

Responsibilities

For Composers

  • Composing an 8-10’ percussion trio for an agreed upon instrumentation, and submitting a performance-ready score by November 1, 2021

  • Performing an 8-10’ solo set on an evening concert

  • Sharing for 30’ on work you’re excited about

  • Paying a $250 non-refundable acceptance deposit

  • Your own travel to, from and within Austin

For Ensembles

  • Playing a 60-75 minute evening concert

  • Sharing for 30 minutes on work you’re excited about

  • Your own travel to, from and within Austin
