NYC Contemporary Music Symposium: Solo Timpani/percussion Call for Submissions

The NYC Contemporary Music Symposium seeks submissions for our spring 2022 event with Timpanist/Percussionist Jeffery Kautz. Held virtually, this event will be professionally recorded and broadcast on Long Island, NY. Each selected composer will receive a high-quality audio and video recording of their performance.

Awards:

  • 4-8 winners will receive a performance and professional recording (audio and edited video) of their work
  • Finalist and Semi-finalist awards distributed at the discretion of the curation team

Requirements/Information:

  • This call for scores is open to all composers
  • All musical aesthetics are welcome
  • Length, ideally, must not exceed 10 minutes
  • Works may be scored for solo timpani and/or other single-player configurations from available instruments
  • Works need not be premieres nor be composed specifically for this project
  • Up to three entries per composer are permissible, each requiring a separate entry fee
  • Non-refundable entry fee of $15 payable through a PayPal link in the application form

About Timpanist/Percussionist Jeffery Kautz:

Award-winning timpanist Jeffrey Kautz is very passionate and moved by the timpani. Jeffrey attained a Master of Music degree in Timpani Performance from NYU Steinhardt in 2019 where he studied under Jonathan Haas and Jason Haaheim. He graduated from Mannes School of Music in 2017 with a Bachelor of Music degree with Honors in Percussion Performance. Jeffrey is currently Principal Timpanist of the Massapequa Philharmonic, New Jersey Sinfonietta, Amore Opera Orchestra and the Apotheosis Opera Orchestra. He is also currently Principal Percussionist of the South Shore Symphony Orchestra and was an Actor Drummer on the HBO Series Plot Against America. Mr. Kautz has won 15 prizes and awards in timpani competitions.
