Announcing the Call for Scores for the Praecepta 2026 Mini Fest. This opportunity is open to any composer (excluding BGSU Students), over the age of 18, with any level of education. Praecepta is a student organization at Bowling Green State University which promotes the composition, performance, and enjoyment of new music throughout the local community. The two selected works will be premiered February 28, 2026; winners will receive a high-quality recording of their work and retain all recording rights.
Submission Criteria
- Submitted works must be written within the last two years.
- All submissions must be anonymous. Any identifying marks on scores or recordings such as commission information, name of self-publishing company, performance information, composer name, etc will disqualify the piece from consideration.
- Please do not include any pseudonyms.
- Works can be up to 7 minutes in length.
- Works must be written for violin, oboe and 2 percussionists.
- Submission requires a legible, digitally engraved score and a recording. MIDI renditions will be accepted.
- Two submissions allowed per composer (a maximum of one piece can be selected from each composer).
Judging process
- Judges will be comprised of Praecepta Board members.
- There will be multiple rounds of judging, and will alternate personnel for each round.

- Composers will retain all rights to their work.
- Selected composers are encouraged but not required to attend the Festival in person.
- Praecepta cannot provide travel or lodging stipends.
- Two submissions will be selected for performance in the Mini-Festival
- Fee per submission is 20 USD. Funds go to the facilitation of the concert where winning submissions will be played and professionally recorded. Composers will receive this recording of their work.
