RE:duo Call for Collaborators 2024 (in-residence at New Music Mosaic)

New Music Mosaic (NMM) is excited to announce our inaugural ensemble-in-residence, RE:duo (“Reply Duo”). As part of this residence, RE:duo will be selecting composers to create new works for saxophone and viola for their 2024/2025 season. These collaborations will include a performance (time and location to be determined) and a professional level studio recording provided by NMM. Unlike a call for scores, we are offering an opportunity to work directly with RE:duo over the course of a few months during the writing process. Rather than submitting works specifically for this ensemble, we request that you submit works of yours that you find to be representative of your composition language amounting to no more than 20 minutes. Any and all composers are welcome to apply. All applications will be adjudicated by the duo.

Applications are open April 1, 2024 – July 1, 2024. Collaborators will be selected by August 15th.

Submissions should include:
● Scores to works
● Links to audio and or video media of works
● A short one-page proposal for the new work you would like to write for us and/or a description of your composition style.

We will not be accepting proposals for works with electronics for this call. 3-5 composers will be selected to compose works no longer than 18 minutes without use of electronics. Saxophones available are SATB. Deadlines for the works are flexible, and we intend to set up a personalized timeline for each composer selected. Selected composers are not required to travel.

RE:duo (“Reply Duo”) engages audiences with innovative programming that blurs the lines between artistic disciplines. Consisting of saxophonist, Wilson Poffenberger, and violist, Elsie Bae Han, the duo formed following an interdisciplinary collaboration exploring the intersection between sound and movement. RE:duo has since expanded its repertory to include works that feature theater, improvisation, movement, speech, as well as other performative elements. Both duo members founded and hold executive positions with New Music Mosaic, a new music collective dedicated to the dissemination of resources to artists. Through New Music Mosaic, RE:duo curates a series of concerts across the U.S. as a part of their biennial open call for scores initiative. Recognized nationally and internationally, RE:duo has performed most recently at conferences and institutions such as the International Saxophone Symposium, the Cortona Sessions for New Music, North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference, Valdosta State University, Georgia State University, the University of North Texas, and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
