River City Brass Composers Competition

Four works will be chosen as finalists, then performed by the River City Brass; two works in April 2022 (five concerts), and two in May (five concerts).

Scores should be submitted not later than February 1 2022

Compositions should be between 3 and 10 minutes in length and be entertaining, suitable for the end of a concert with a ‘big finish’.


1 Trumpet/Cornet in Eb, 9 cornets in Bb (scored as in a British Brass band or otherwise), 1 Flugelhorn, 3 Horns in F, 2 Baritone Horns (bass clef), 2 tenor and 1 bass trombone (bass clef), 2 euphoniums (bass clef), 4 tubas (bass clef) 3 Percussion (timpani, tuned and drum-set)


Sibelius, Final, or musicXML. If you are submitting a PDF, you must also include an .mp3 so we can hear the piece.

Prize money

All four finalists will receive a prize of $1000 (USD), the winner, chosen by the band and audience will receive an additional $1000
