Each season, the Composer-in-Residence writes two new choral compositions or arrangements—one per semester—in consultation with Solaris’s Artistic Director and Assistant Conductor. The selected artist will 1) compose or arrange two new SATB works 3-5 minutes each (one per semester) in consultation with the Artistic Director and Assistant Conductor of Solaris; 2) engage in rehearsals and receive ongoing feedback from our ensemble, the Artistic Director and from James Stewart (our current Composer-in-residence) as a mentor; and 3) create works that will be premiered by Solaris, recorded, and offered for sale on our website—giving your compositions a wider audience and potential income. Housing is provided.

This program offers more than a commission — it’s a collaborative artistic experience that connects composers, singers, and audiences in the shared joy of creating something new. Solaris provides a supportive, professional environment where ideas can flourish and composers can hear their music realized at the highest level.

If you’re a composer passionate about writing for voices and excited to engage with an ensemble committed to excellence and creativity, we invite you to learn more about our Composer-in-Residence program.
