Sung in Color is a virtual recital series dedicated to producing high-quality audio/video recordings of solo vocal music by living BIPOC composers, sharing their art and connecting them to wider audiences and collaborators. Our first recital premiered on August 30, 2022 and featured music by Nebal Maysoud, Mari Esabel Valverde, Brittney Benton, Joseph Jones, and Dylan Trần.
BIPOC composers of any age, nationality or location are invited to submit up to three pieces for voice and piano. Pieces may premiered or un-premiered. These may be art song(s), excerpts, arias, etc. There is no application fee and scores need not be anonymized. Works may be of any length, but works under 6 minutes are preferred.
5 composers will be selected to have their pieces professionally recorded (audio and video) and presented as part of the Sung in Color virtual recital series. Shortly after the recital, composers will receive a high-quality download of the aforementioned recording with full permission for non-commercial use.
