Americas Society presents…counter)induction: nueva música
December 17, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm CST
counter)induction returns to Music of the Americas with music by Latin American female composers.
Celebrating its 21st season, the adventurous composer-performer collective counter)induction returns to Music of the Americas after over a decade with a program highlighting the widely diverse world of contemporary music by Latin American female composers.
Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 6pm CST | 7pm EST
Less like a livestream and more like a concert film, “nueva música” will feature world premieres as well as new arrangements prepared expressly for counter)induction, interwoven with interviews with all of the composers.
DM R‘s “Studies for violin and cello” explores the extremes of timbre and texture on strings, while Villanueva’s “Plancto” uses contrasting, expressive gestures for a sparse and dramatic lament. Areal provides a hypnotic series of chords that players choose how to interact with in “Holsa”, while Arditto creates a fun atmosphere that focuses on the sounds and gestures we make beyond what the instruments themselves can do. After Villanueva and Solomonoff revisit inspirations found in childhood and in Debussy respectively, the program culminates with Lopez delving into her new-found love for Hip-hop.
