Alons-y! This program is a Francophile’s delight culminating in the charming insouciance of Jacques Ibert‘s Divertissement. Our season-long exploration of contemporary African-American composers continues with Jasmine Barnes‘ timely Resistance Brass Quintet.
Bach to the Future: Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 3
Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 7:30pm CST | 5:30pm PST
The Masterworks Series concludes with a celebration of the influence of Baroque music across five centuries. Gabrieli’s music written for St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice was an important for the turn from the Renaissance to the Baroque musical style. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 exemplifies the high Baroque style, while works by Beethoven, Villa-Lobos and Kevin Day testify to the Baroque’s lingering inspiration down to the present.
