We are thrilled to announce our newest addition to ChoralQuest®, our music series for middle-level choir: Somos los dueños by Judd Greenstein!

Somos los dueños is a rhythmically driven piece that proclaims, “We are the masters of our destinies!” The poetry in Spanish written in collaboration with the choir students at Great Falls Middle School in Montague, MA, empowers young singers to take hold of their fate as they learn syncopation, contrasting articulation, and percussive vocal techniques.

“Judd Greenstein is one of America’s freshest new voices in choral music.  What a joy for any young singer to be exposed to his work early in their choral journey.  Through an infectious rhythmic ostinato and simple vocal percussion, Greenstein uses an uplifting text that encourages young choristers to aim far and wide as they pursue their dreams.” -Eugene Rogers, Series Editor

Throughout the past year, Judd Greenstein has been in residence with the 8th grade chorus at Great Falls Middle School in Montague, MA under the direction of Kayla Roth. The students are having a great experience working with Greenstein, and the collaboration has given students a chance to interact and create with a living composer.

About ChoralQuest and American Composers Forum

ChoralQuest is a music series that commissions new works for middle-level choirs by world-class composers. The series is designed to breathe new life into the available repertoire for choral students in middle school and junior high, introduce students to the composition process, and give commissioned composers the unique opportunity and challenge of writing new works for young, changing voices. The series is commissioned and published by the American Composers Forum (St. Paul, MN), an organization that has supported the creative spirit of today’s composers since 1975 by linking communities with composers and performers, encouraging the making, playing, and enjoyment of new music. All pieces are distributed exclusively by the Hal Leonard Corporation, the world’s largest music retailer.
