The Community Music Center of Boston, in partnership with the New Gallery Concert Series, is hosting its annual Young Composers Festival on Friday, May 9th from 4pm to 8pm, and we are opening a call for string quartet scores (less than 10 minutes). Up to ten compositions will be selected for a reading and feedback session with members of the Jewel Box Ensemble.

Members of the ensemble will also be performing at the New Gallery Concert Series on Saturday, May 10th – the first submissions will be offered two complimentary tickets to the performance!

Who Can Submit?
Anyone who self-identifies as a “young composer,” regardless of age.

Composers must be able to attend the workshop in Boston with no provided travel expenses.

Selected composers will receive:
A reading of your composition by the Jewel Box Ensemble
Live feedback from the ensemble
A video recording of your reading
We unfortunately cannot provide feedback on compositions not selected for the reading.

Instructions for Submission:
Please email the following to cmsevents@cmcb.org:

A PDF of your score
A MIDI recording (optional but encouraged)
A brief paragraph answering the following questions:

  • What is your compositional background and why do you consider yourself a young composer?
  • What do you hope to gain from this opportunity?

There is no entry fee.

Previously-performed works may be submitted, provided they do not have a robust performance history.
