Soundbox Ventures is now accepting applications from student, emerging, and early-career level composers for their 2026 Composer Fellowship residency in Sarasota, Florida, from July 22–27, 2026. This residency provides the attendees to focus on writing a new work or refining a recently completed work, and producing professional recordings of these pieces. Composers may apply to write a new work for a preassigned instrumentation or submit works of 5–10 minutes for solo or small chamber ensemble, with instrumentation including strings, piano, flute, clarinet, and some percussion. In the latter case, the program focuses on producing “second performance” recordings of already-premiered pieces. The residency includes workshop rehearsals, recording sessions, and seminars addressing repertoire sustainability and professional development. Need-based tuition financial aid is available. Tuition is $1500, with a $675 residency fee (ineligible for financial aid).

Recording Rights

Composers own full rights to the recording and may use it for any purpose they choose. Soundbox reserves the right to post recordings for marketing purposes with permission from the composers.

Future Opportunities

A composer’s work may be awarded future programming opportunities with Soundbox’s community partners, including regional presenters and radio broadcasts.
