WELCOME TO THE INTERNATIONAL CHORAL COMPOSERS INSTITUTE (ICCI)
with emphasis on Music for Developing Choirs

Location & Dates
This institute is for choral composers of all levels, from those who are just beginning to those who are ready to have their work performed or published and just need a final push. All nationalities and ages (18+) welcome. There are 2 tracks: auditioned and observer-only. For the auditioned track, students will receive daily small-group and private instruction from composers at the top of their field. ALL students will receive composing instruction as well as instruction on how to become published, writing/finding lyrics, using/choosing notation software, and more. Publishing house editors representing Alfred, Hinshaw, Graphite, Colla Voce, and Choristers Guild will present sessions – one editor per day. Auditioned participants will have the opportunity to have their work performed in reading sessions and some will be selected to premiere at the final concert. Leveled instruction and group sessions for auditioned participants will be with one or more of the following instructors: Sherry Blevins, Ruth Dwyer, Raphael Fusco, Jocelyn Hagen, Kate Janzen, or Victor Johnson. The location for ICCI is Charlotte, North Carolina. A virtual option will be offered via Zoom.
This institute will be in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Levine Conference Center from July 14-18, 2025. Classes will be during the day from 9-5 (EDT), and evenings will be reserved for composing, socializing/collaborating with other composers, and dining. A virtual option is also being offered.
The free, final concert including select music by participants and our headlining composers-in-residence will take place on Friday, July 18 at 7:00 p.m. (EDT) Transportation to this venue will be provided by ICCI.
Tuition is $789 for both the in-person and virtual options. In-person participants are responsible for their own lodging, food and travel.
All instructors speak English as their primary language. Other languages spoken by at least one instructor: Italian, German, and French
Partial scholarships and financial aid available for the auditioned track. Scholarships are awarded case by case based on need and/or audition materials submitted.

Choose either the observer track or the audition track
Application process for the Audition Track:
- Submit 2 choral scores in PDF format with an mp3 (mp3 may be software-generated)
- Full name must be on each score
- A résumé including composing experience and/or prior composing instruction (if any)
- If applying for a partial scholarship, a letter is required explaining your financial need, your composing goals, 2 references, and any other pertinent information.
- All entry materials for the Audition Track should be submitted through the Google form no later than May 1, 2024.
