Applicants may be of any nationality. Letters of invitation are available for visa applications, but no other visa support.
You do NOT need to have recommendation letters sent with your application. Letters will be requested by panelists as needed.
The first round of acceptances will be emailed in early February until all spaces are filled.

Composer Applicants
Scores (pdf) and links to recordings of 3 original works. MIDI is acceptable, but not encouraged. Recordings and realizations of electroacoustic music or experimental works that do not use traditional scores can be submitted.
Performer Applicants
Open to ALL instrumentalists and vocalists, including brass, winds, strings, piano, guitar, and percussion. Please note that our campus is not equipped for large instruments such as harp, organ and marimba. If you have any questions about whether your instrument or ensemble is feasible in our space, please email us.
Please submit solo or chamber performance samples composed after 1970. Works that involve improvisation are acceptable.
Pre-formed Ensembles
We are accepting applications from pre-formed ensembles (2-5 players) of any instrumentation. In addition to participating in collaborative activities, participant ensembles will work closely faculty who will provide coaching and guidance on repertoire works. Chamber ensembles should submit one application as a pre-formed group. Piano duos can apply.
Recordings must include the same players who are applying. Ensemble members who are also interested in being considered as a soloist should indicate this on the application form. They only need to pay one application fee.
FEES, PAYMENT, REFUNDS:
Applications submitted between December 1 and January 8 are FREE. Applications submitted between January 9 and January 22 require a $41.50 application fee.
Tuition for the June Festival is $3,000 ($2,400 for tuition and $600 for food/housing).
Listed below are the Scholarships, Fellowships, and Work Study options to help with the costs of attending NMOP:
BIPOC Scholarships: We will be offering several reduced and full tuition scholarships. There are no work responsibilities for scholarships.
Latin American Fellowships: For two composers and/or performers from a Latin American country. The fellows can be currently studying or living in the US or any other country. These fellowships provide free tuition and limited travel funds.
Pre-formed Ensemble Fellowships: We will be offering several full tuition fellowships to pre-formed ensembles (2-5 players).
Robert Black Bass Fellowship: This fellowship provides free tuition to one double bassist.
Eva Laucks Vocal Fellowship: Eva Laucks was a soprano who made her 1929 debut in Don Juan in Dresden, Germany. Eva’s family is honoring her life with this Vocal Fellowship, which provides free tuition to a vocalist.
Yvar Mikhashoff Piano Fellowship: Yvar Mikhashoff was an American pianist and composer who dedicated his career to contemporary music. This Fellowship provides free tuition to one pianist.
Emerson Wahl “So Good” Percussion Fellowship: Honoring the life and musical legacy of ’17 and ’19 NMOP alumnus Emerson Wahl, gifted musician, devoted mentor, music teacher and so much more. This Fellowship provides free tuition to a percussionist.
Lake Dunmore Composer Fellowship: In 2025, due to the generosity of our Vermont community, we are able to offer a free tuition fellowship to a woman composer.
There are additional performance/work responsibilities for all fellowships.
Work Study allows students to earn money to help with the costs of attending NMOP. These options include:
Pre-Festival Preparation: May 25-June 1. You will work closely with the Executive Director to prepare the campus for the June festival. This work will include landscaping, cleaning, painting, and general non-professional maintenance. You are required to live on-campus and work from 9-5pm daily for 6 days. Room and board are provided at no cost during this time. This work study is a $1000 credit towards your tuition. Only 4 positions available.
Transportation: Using your private vehicle with adequate insurance, you would drive to and from the airport/train station picking up participants for 8 hours each day on arrival day, mid-festival changeover, and departure day. Estimated work study credit is $500 towards your tuition plus a gas allowance. This work study position starts June 1 and ends June 17, room and board are provided at no cost on June 1 and June 17. Only 2 positions available.
Tech Assistance: May 30 – June 17. You will work with the Tech staff. Estimated work study credit is $500 towards tuition. Only 4 positions available.
Additional scholarships and fellowships will be added as funding becomes available.
Accepted participants must send a $500 deposit by March 1 to reserve a space. Deposits are not refundable after April 1, except in cases of documented medical emergencies. The balance of fees is due in full no later than May 1.
