Princeton Brass Band announces their inaugural Composition Competition. Princeton Brass Band seeks new works for brass band from composers ages 18 and up. Winner receives $500 and their work premiered during the 2026-2027 season in Central New Jersey. Travel stipend unavailable.

Submission Details

  • All composers 18 years or older as of 1/1/26.

  • Fee: A non-refundable $25 entry fee must be paid with your completed application for your score to be considered.

  • Pieces must be original compositions with a maximum length of 10 minutes.

  • No arrangements or transcriptions of existing works will be considered.

  • Compositions must not have been already premiered and must have been completed within the last five years.

  • Works must also be electronically engraved (an engraving guide as well as a full breakdown of brass band instrumentation is provided at the bottom of this page)

  • A MIDI recording (mp3, .wav or MIDI) must be submitted.

Recording and Composer Rights

The composer retains all rights but allows for the Princeton Brass Band to use the premiere recording in promotional materials in perpetuity. Princeton Brass Band also retains the right to perform the chosen piece for no less than 3 years to the date after the premiere of said piece. After that point should Princeton Brass Band wish to perform the piece the organization will have to purchase the piece through whichever means the composer chooses for their publications.
